Eyes of the Soul
CTS Donation to “Eyes of Heart Cinema”
Beijing Hongdandan Aid-the-Disable Facility organized an activity by which volunteers would describe the scenes of the films to the blind. In this way, the blind could make up the missed information caused by sight loss. By “listening to the films”, especially the description of space, flight, explosion, scenery and facial expression in the films, the blind people were able to have a deeper understanding of life and the connection between sound and vision. They could learn to appreciate not only the art of film but also environment and life. In this way, the disadvantaged group could broaden their cognition, improving their capabilities and raising their standard of living. They could enjoy social life equally as participants rather than mere receivers.
The activity gained wide attention from the society. Many media, including CCTV, BTV, Renming Daily, Beijing Youth Daily, Xinhua News and Yahoo, reported this activity and called on more volunteers to join. Volunteers from other companies such as Microsoft and Bayer also joined in.
CTS Beijing team was enthusiastic about this activity. The company donated a high-performance DVD so that more blind people can listen to the films; some employees looked for venues to play the films; some donated almost 1000 Yuan anonymously, some contributed their own film discs and some even wanted to learn how to communicate with the blind. Everyone did his or her part.
Through listening to the films, these blind people could certainly appreciate the art. More importantly, their life was illuminated by the lights from their souls.
