Two Funds Waiting for Your Applications!

--Wendy Wen, Corporate Affairs, Beijing

I. Cargill China Cares Fund

Cargill China donated 1,000,000 RMB to China Children and Teenager’s Fund (CCTF) in 2006 as the start-up money for Cargill China Cares Fund, which is intended to enhance the Cargill Cares community work in the field of education, environmental protection, and health around China, especially among the communities where Cargill businesses are located. The fund is to match local business donation at the rate of 1:1 for a community project selected by local CCCC.

By now, three local cares councils have submitted proposals for the matching fund, namely, Chengdu, Langfang and Wuhan, with the amount of RMB 15,000, RMB 15,000 and RMB 13,000 respectively, to furnish local schools and support local CCC activities.

We look forward to more applications from locations to strengthen our efforts in enriching Cargill communities.

II. Rural School Project Fund

This is an exciting new development in Cargill’s Citizenship efforts in China. Cargill Minneapolis has made a grant to Cargill China of U.S. $500,000 (approximately RMB 3.75 million) to support Rural Schools Program. If we use these funds successfully this year our headquarters will grant us an additional $500,000 for the 2008/09 fiscal year. Or a total of $1 million by May 2009!

The money is to be used to upgrade and renovate approximately 20 rural schools in communities near our plants. Education is one of Cargill’s Citizenship key areas of focus in China, and many locations have supported local education efforts for years. This program will enable us to better meet the needs of both Cargill China communities and Cargill’s strategic growth objectives in China while instilling the culture of community service among employees.

To date, four locations have submitted proposals. They are CAN-Chengdu, SSA-Songyuan, CTS-Zibo and CAN-Tai’an.
