Experience the Fascination of Technology
Li jie – Cargill President (Dongguan) Feed Protein Technology Co., Ltd
“To pay back society and enrich communities”-- this is the core objective of Cargill-President Cares Council (CPCC). Led by CPCC’s president Larry Popp and Zhuang Cuncheng, we started a journey to serve the community. We had won support from the high management and volunteers of both Machong South and Machong North plants.
On May 26th 2007 we held our very first event for 49 students from Dasheng Primary School, a local community school in Machong. In order to broaden the vision of the children, the event highlighted the charm of science and technology. The event comprises 3 parts: JA (Junior Achievement) introduction, soybean crushing plant tour, and Guangzhou Science Museum tour.
First of all, students and teachers came to our plant. Mr. Zhuang Cuncheng made an opening speech. And then, Mr. Hu Wolin briefed them on the culture of President and Cargill as well as Junior Achievement. Kevin Liao demonstrated how bean grows and how to carry out bean trade. Then we started our 2nd parts of the event—plant tour. Students could see how soybean meal and soybean oil are produced from soybean. Finally, we visited the Guangzhou Science Museum. At the museum, our volunteers answered questions from the students. For example, how a drum without any skin on it could make some sound with a beat? Why it is difficult to walk in an oblique house? With the help of scientific means, children saw sound waves and brain waves with their own eyes--what a miraculous world! This is exactly what our CPCC intended to teach children: there are unlimited possibilities in the future. To make the event more exciting, volunteers also accompanied the students to do handcrafts and watch some science films in the museum.
The whole event was a great success. Everyone was happy despite of the rain in the sky. We are looking forward to the next event on Jun 9th 2007.
